“Humanity and its reoccurring dream”
Oil on canvas 140cm x 140cm
This is probably the last piece I will finish here in Japan. I had been thinking a lot and talking about the world and all that is happening, South Korea is a ferry ride away form where `i am in southern Japan and there are some rather large issues going on in the world right now.
But when I first got here I had taken a ferry to a tiny Island called Himejima, hiked to the top and saw he shine. While waiting for the ferry to return I beach combed some of the rocks and found these shells, mostly broken, abandoned, hiding under rocks and then I found this beautiful, large, intact piece. It seemed to me that this would be the ideal that all shells would aspire to , it feels like humanity aspires to it …..but we are all a little broken, and so we just dream of being more than we are.
